My MET Bag

As I continue round the color wheel and paint a painting a day with the Leslie Saeta challenge, I am learning alot about discipline, perseverance, subject matter and most importantly, commitment. Is it talent that makes the artist, or is it showing up, day in and day out, to do the work? There is no doubt in my mind that if I continue to really see what's in front of me, I will become a more sensitive painter. I've seen it happen with others, why not me too?
This 6x6 oil is available for $100 which includes shipping in the US. Please email me if you are interested.

  1. Love the bag. You captured the weight and folds of the material so well.
I love your question about talent. If you read the wonderful book Art&Fear you will find a section on this very thing. The end result basically is "practice makes perfect"
I have found that the small daily paintings I do are a wonderful learning experience. Some days are better than others though and that is the kicker...I still struggle a lot on some and other flow. Why that is eludes me.

    1. Thanks Julie, I have read Art and Fear, it's a classic as far as I'm concerned. It eludes me too, the struggle one day and the flow the next. Like life I suppose!

  2. I'm enjoying this challenge because of the many artists I've discovered through it like you. And just think... we're all going to be 30 paintings better for it. Your work is lovely... especially like your yellow house a few posts back.

  3. I've been wondering the same thing about "showing up". There is so much talent out there but it's the people who really DO the stuff that make the difference. I've enjoyed following your paintings every day. Great job.

    1. Thank you Pam, let's just keep showing up. I just discovered your blog, fun!
Thank you, Margaret, I don't consider myself brave at all. Maybe I have no foresight or else I might be scared off certain subjects!

  5. Great painting, Anne. I love the way you painted the 'slouchiness' of the bag! I think the artists who paint every day are going to be the ones who move ahead - it's that brush mileage quotient at work!

  6. Thanks Claire, the bag got slouchier as I went along, and I had to look more at the painting than the bag. Like some figure models as the clock ticks on, they droop a bit:)
