For Everything There Is A Season

This painting is inspired in part by the colors blue and yellow. The flag of Ukraine and the love of country in the face of cruel and heartless atrocities.

And too - the colors of the season- the daffodils that carry the hope of Spring, the blue sky that is always there- even though it may be hidden by storms and clouds.

And of course the title is in reference to Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. These times certainly call on me to renew my faith, and stay ever hopeful.

This painting can be seen at Spring Bull Gallery in Newport, RI or on their website for the show Celebrate Spring which runs from March 19th- April 24th.

Trumpet Daffodil

Another take on my trumpet daffodil. Fun with shapes and color in all the ways that make me happy to be always looking and learning with paint. I'm feeling inspired by the beauty in nature at this time of year.

Thinking Spring this Morning

Looking at these daffodils this morning was energizing/challenging - all the shapes and shades of greens and yellows!  Not worrying or trying to paint individual petals, instead asking, "What is the overall shape that I see?"  Looking at the negative spaces, especially inside the glass bottle, and thinking only about shapes, keeping variety in the background by mixing fresh color for each area. Demo from todays' class Painting Fundamentals at Beach Studios. I am so fortunate to have a wonderful group of students, so willing to go to a new place, and isn't that what we love about painting anyway?
