Studio
Had an ahah moment today as I looked at the painting I was going to submit to the DeBlois Gallery for the Step On It exhibit. It was my last blog post. I thought, this is not how I really paint, its not how I want to represent myself. Sure it was fun for a morning in the studio, but not all paintings need to be OUT in the world. So I regrouped and honestly felt so much better after I made my decision. So there is value and lessons in all that we do. Or choose not to do.I'm off to Marco Island for a week, drawing, walking, reading, sounds dreamy to me!
Step Study unfinished
DeBlois Gallery Is having an exhibit titled Step On It. My painting is a deviation from my usual style, alot more abstract. Fun to paint.Often my painting is serious, in concept and execution, so this was like splashing through puddles. This is the unfinished painting, will post the finished later today.

Iris I
Went to the studio early Sunday morning, planning to work on the river walk painting. I quickly got distracted by a bunch of flowers and thought I would do a warm-up painting. Staying with bigger brushes as much as I could, finding the essentials that speak iris to me. Happy with the results.I love how unexpected things occur in the studio, for me who plans so much! Spontaneity spoken here.

Riverwalk-beginning
I'm starting a series of larger format paintings of cafes, restaurants, umbrellas, with and without people present. This palette is not my usual one, so many more earth tones I have to resist brightening things up as I want a more tonal painting.
The early tonalists were interested in mood and atmosphere, but I am looking more for the cohesiveness that this limited palette is bringing to the work. This is the first stage, blocking in the shapes, determining the value structure, and getting the canvas (24x24) covered.
