Has it really been almost a month?

I can't believe almost a month has gone by since my last post. This plein air view of the rocks at the end of Bailey's Beach in Newport is 5x7. Why haven't I been posting? I got involved with making a book, experimenting with different ideas, it didn't get accepted into the juried show I had tried for. I should know better to be affected, I thought I had a tougher skin, but it was of images of my grandchildren and I think I was too close to the whole project to have even entered it into a show. So I'm in a space with no particular direction. What will I paint next? What am I trying to say anyway? Maybe I'm just thinking too much? I'm going out to Truro tonight to hear Stuart Shils lecture and see his new work. I know I will be inspired.

  1. Rejection is always a hard thing to accept. Just to let you know that you are not alone in your feelings. Hope the Stuart Shils lecture pulled you up and inspired you to continue your work in whatever direction feels right. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next!

  2. I'm the WORST when it comes to rejection, Anne. First I say it doesn't matter. I try to be grown up. Then I get MAD and say who the heck do they think they are? All up about it! Then I slowly, slowly realize that it's all in the Plan, that I'll get in another one, that sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and it's pretty much a crapshoot. Their loss, surely, on rejecting yours, as you're a fine painter. I would love to hear the Shills lecture - I am so inspired by his work! You did a great job on the beach scene - so you're back in the saddle, anyway!

  3. Thanks Linda, it is reassuring to know I'm not alone. Thanks Kelley, I think I was just too attached to the book. I am pretty thick skinned when it comes to my paintings, bit I think rejection of the book was like a rejection of my grandchildren! Shils was inspiring, more in my next post! Thank you both for your support!

  4. I know how it is to get busy, and put blogging aside. Glad you are painting and posting again.
