Contemplative

In a palette that's more tonal than my usual craving for intense color, I explored pattern and shape as my primary focus.

14x18 on canvas. Over an old painting. Any thoughts on painting over old work? Any techniques that bear sharing? I sand it wearing a mask and doing it outdoors.

    1. Thanks Barbara, I appreciate your comments as I am always trying to be more abstract without losing what the painting is about!

  3. Anne, I read that all the old masters painted over their used canvases. I do and do not bother to sand first. No pretensions to being a master. I find painting water a challenge. I may try what you have done here - combined the color blue of the water in light with the well-defined but colorless value/shapes of the shadows and lights. I am tempted to grab a brush and paint your lovely 'map' with some of the complement. Very nice!

    1. Thanks Liz for your reference to the old masters - we are all just in love with painting- whether now or in long gone times. So glad you like the painting.
