Cuttyhunk Plein Air Festival

Postponed because of rain, 45 artists boarded the ferry from New Bedford, MA to the tiny island of Cuttyhunk on Father’s Day- which turned out to be a glorious day.

I set up near the marina (and the bathrooms) after checking in and picking up a lovely boxed lunch. Ready to get started, the time was precious as the last ferry departs an hour earlier on Sunday.

I painted an 11x14 painting in just under two hours- there was a fast but fun reception and award ceremony- then off to catch the ferry home. Happy that my painting sold and a huge Thank You to the organizers of this special event

Leaving New Bedford- the fishing fleet is spectacular.

I found my motif to paint!

Lots of people stopped by to ask- “what’s going on             with all the artists?”

Final painting!

Happy me- see the red dot! Got to meet the person who bought my painting too- able to thank them in person!

The old decommissioned Coast Guard Station on Cuttyhunk- that would make a great painting too!

Cuttyhunk Plein Air

We took the ferry from New Bedford and an hour later we were tying up in Cuttyhunk, the outermost island of the Elizabeth Islands in Massachusetts. Home to just 10 year round residents, the summer population grows to 400! Here’s the Fish Dock, where I settled down to do my painting.

This was a lovely surprise. A First Place and a sale! Very happy!

We turned in our paintings, and they were judged, then we all came in for the art show. I think there were 47 artists! Exciting because the last two years had been virtual- so great to be on Cuttyhunk, painting together!
