Honey Crisp

Here’s one that was fun to paint! A big juicy apple, with one slice taken out- painted from direct observation in the campground. The background was an exercise in simplification-I’m happy with the abstract nature of it, but still portraying the colors of Fall. 8”x8”, oil on panel.

Seal Cove

Seal Cove, Oregon- what a magical place. We are traveling in our motorhome and the campground is right across from the Pacific Ocean. Cross the 101-look carefully!- then a set of steps to the beach. At the first landing is a bench where I set up to paint the magnificent rocky shoreline. The painting is 8x16 and already has been SOLD!

People walking on the beach asked for a photo of the painting- of course I said yes, but then asked them to take one of me. The artist in her happy place!

Harmony

My painting Harmony was selected by Kevin Gilmore for a new show at Spring Bull Gallery titled Out of the Blue. This painting is 12x24 on gallery wrapped canvas and was originally titled- An Experiment. Using only yellow ochre, Indian red, ultramarine blue and titanium white to make as many hues as I could while minimizing repetition and showing a full range of values. The show runs through 10/29/23- hope when you’re in Newport you’ll stop in. Open daily except for Tuesdays.

Best of Mystic

So very excited and honored to have been juried into this upcoming show titled Best of Mystic at the Providence Art Club! August 6-25 with the opening reception on August 12th- from 4 to 6.

My painting is titled Hauled Out and is 24x24. My inspiration is the hard working fleet of fishing boats right here in Newport, RI. This image is from the State Pier, filled with the sight, sounds, and yes the aromas of a working harbor.

I’m Going to Maine

I’m headed to Maine- that is my painting Audacious is! I showed my very good friend my basement studio, and the inroads I’ve made- organizing and decluttering and she stopped in front of this painting (48x60) and just said WOW!

I love this- she exclaimed! I want this! And so it went into her car. I’m just happy it can see the light of day and be around the energy of her family. When she got home she texted that her husband loves it too- It’s not going to Maine he said- it’s staying right here in our new home.

A housewarming gift that really brought me so much pleasure!

Summer Rain

We were determined to paint, but the forecast predicted rain. We found a spot under the Sakonnet Bridge, which protected us from the downpours which happened on and off. Cooper found his happy place and settled down.

Then the sun came out, and as my fellow painters know, everything changed! See the fourth picture to see that bright sunlight! It’s tempting to follow that, but I stuck with my plan- a rainy day painting.

Here’s the final painting- Summer Rain. Available for sale Spring Bull Gallery in Newport, RI and from my gallery on the Daily Paintworks.

Quiet Cove

So much fun painting at Brenton Cove this morning in Newport. The first two pics are details, then the final painting. Finished in the studio- tweaking the values- my eyes seemed to have trouble with the brightness of the day. I’ve never worn my glasses, never mind dark glasses to paint- but…..

This one is 12x24 and looks great in this wide frame rimmed with gold. I’m in love with the lobster boat in the foreground, but there’s a cat boat at anchor and some Opti’s racing in the background.
