This is a section from a larger painting, not the finished version.Still trying to feel out how much can be left unsaid.Interesting discussion with another artist tonight at the Art League of Rhode Island's annual meeting about using altered perspectives and what we see when we do this. I notice that although many of my subjects are in groups, there is an isolation about them that I am drawn to.

Riverwalk

This painting of the San Antonio downtown area called Riverwalk will be on the postcard for the 5 Member Show that I will be featured in this August at the Portsmouth Arts Guild.

Mill Street Morning

Finally got organized to paint plein air today! All my painting paraphenalia loaded in the car. What a beatiful morning in Newport. Ended up here, on Mill Street, looking at 2 new shops The Newport Tower Museum and The Mill Street Garden Shop. Good luck to both of these new businesses!This building housed the Red Cross offices for many years. Me, I'm just happy to be outside and painting. Lots of friendly visitors to our town stopping by for a look and a chat.

Back from a fabulous 8 day trip to Italy, what an inspiring and magical place! This image is a portion of a larger painting (30x60) which will be part of a show I'm having at the Portsmouth Arts Guild later this summer.I will be posting "parts" of the paintings I have been working on, all scenes from restaurants and coffee shops, with and without people. I am excited with how this work is going and hope you enjoy the pieces! When the show opens I will post the pictures in their entirety.

Spring

Another small alla prima of the hyacinth we bought for Easter in memory of our parents. Painting it gave me time to think of them and the wonderful way they introduced me to art, from noticing the smallest patterns in a snowflake to the grandest palaces and museums of Europe.

Under Construction

Finally am showing this last of the 3rd Beach cottage series. This painting is on a 24x24inch panel and is now hanging at the Portsmouth Arts Guild juried show "Imagine Red". The color theme has been a huge success, starting with our "Imagine Yellow" show last year. Everyone responds to it, in either obvious or extremely subtle ways. It makes a very cohesive show to hang and there was a great turnout at the opening reception last Friday night. This show will run until May 2nd. View the rest of this series on my website.

Pansies

Who can resist these first harbingers of spring? Wanting to do more immediate daily paintings as I am so immersed in the larger pieces for the show I'm in later this year, felt the need to balance with direct observation. Felt very good to work small with bigger brushes for this piece which is a 6x6 canvas.
