No Expectations

Moonlight was painted without any reference, on a night I had watched the moon come up from my deck. Frustrated with some physical issues that have prevented me from painting plein air this summer, I just went into the studio without any plan.

Why not just push paint around? No expectations, no agenda.

Not how I usually work at all, but it worked without my having to try too hard.

Magic. Do you believe in magic? Let go and see what happens.

Finished & SOLD!

So happy to finally finish this big 36x36” painting. It started with a DM from an old friend, and I took on the challenge- big and happy flowers with a white background. Hollyhocks and roses, images I had saved just because! In the meantime, I got Covid (even though I am fully vaccinated) and everything went on hold until I got my energy back. I contacted my friend and explained that the painting was finished and that she had no obligation to buy it but she fell in love and now everyone is thrilled. I was inspired to paint these images and am just delighted that my vision touched her heart. Thank you!

Progress Shots

Love a big blank canvas; this one has been in my studio for a bit but I got inspired by a friends comments to paint a big floral with white roses and pink/red hollyhocks. I’m using some photos from my treasure trove of images (where the flowers have their own big folder). I’m doing something I haven’t done before and that is to surround the flowers with a rich and creamy background. More images to come…

No Boundaries

As you can see, the colors don’t quite match. If I were more of a techie- I could correct that but here I am- standing in front of my painting No Boundaries, which was sold at the Little Compton Summer Art Show! The photo below was taken outside on the north side of the house. I’ve painted this farmhouse and barns many times, this time exploring the foreground to really lead the viewer back to the buildings.

June Rose

My neighbor gave me a few of these splendid roses from her garden. With the cobalt blue glass, I knew I wanted to paint them. Here’s my set up on the deck. With our awning there is beautiful diffused light.

Here’s the finished painting. As you can see- I cropped a lot!!! 6x6 on a cradled panel.

They are just beautiful- now captured in a painting. Sold and off to a new home in Hilton Head, SC.

Cuttyhunk Plein Air

We took the ferry from New Bedford and an hour later we were tying up in Cuttyhunk, the outermost island of the Elizabeth Islands in Massachusetts. Home to just 10 year round residents, the summer population grows to 400! Here’s the Fish Dock, where I settled down to do my painting.

This was a lovely surprise. A First Place and a sale! Very happy!

We turned in our paintings, and they were judged, then we all came in for the art show. I think there were 47 artists! Exciting because the last two years had been virtual- so great to be on Cuttyhunk, painting together!

Let’s Meet at the Beach

Two chairs and an umbrella- all set up for a great day at the beach. I got in the ocean yesterday and even though it was only 55, it felt so invigorating. This painting will remind you of the long days of summer. Take time to do the things you enjoy- time is moving fast!

16x20 painted in oil on a deep gallery wrapped canvas.
